GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT DENTISTRY EDUCATION
Approximately 100 students are admitted to the program every year. The language of
instruction is both English and Turkish. Prior to entering the English Dentistry Program, students
are admitted into the English Preparatory Course, if they cannot prove the level of English.
The main aim of the program is to offer a contemporary and life-long educational perspective
on oral health, diagnosis, treatment and raising future dental surgeons from Turkey and all over
the world at both independent and social levels. The program endeavors the opportunity to
accrete both Turkish and Foreign dental surgeons at an international level; by offering them an
education with the relative equipment in teaching them protective and curative dental health
hence why the language of instruction of the program is in English. University of Kyrenia ,
Faculty of Dentistry provides an English education to a large number of foreign students and is a
department in high demand.
After completing the Preparatory program in the 1st, Dentistry students are required to take 3
Years of Fundamental Medicine and 2 Years of Clinical Practice together with their Internship.
They must sustain a CGPA of 2.00 every year and a CGPA of 2.00 at the end of the 5-year
program. Furthermore, Dentistry students must have completed their 300 credits at the end of
the 5-Year Program. Finally, students of the University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry are
obliged to successfully complete the Dentistry Undergraduate program by fulfilling the relevant
courses, exams, clinical practices and internship outlined by the rules and regulations of the
Faculty.
High-tech technologies are used in the education of theory, laboratory and clinical internship in
the Faculty of Dentistry at University of Kyrenia. University of Kyrenia, Faculty of Dentistry
Hospital is the first dentistry faculty hospital of Kyrenia, which has opened on the 5 th of
October 2017.
Clinics of the dentistry faculty hospital are designed to serve with the latest technology,
methods and materials. Up to date practice of modern dentistry like implanthology, esthetic
dentistry, preventive dentistry, sedation applications especially for patients with special needs
are included in our clinic procedures. Units for disabled people is designed for patients with
special needs, which is a drawback for the most hospitals. Dental digital tomography and digital
monitorizing devices are designed to give less radiation to patients.
With its experienced Faculty members/lecturers and flourishing instructors, the Faculty’s
education coincides with the standards of the European Union Education System.
The programs strength offers immense opportunities to its students. These are: being amongst
the programs that have high potential of admitting foreign students, the faculty being in the
heart of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, having a fundamental background for
scientific research, offering qualified psychological guidance and counselling to its students,
offering the best medical care within the University Hospital and Dental Clinics/Surgeries, being
experienced in its field, academically respected, offering the best education with its highly
qualified and dynamic academicians, being able to easily attend to disabled patients, using the
most up to date technology and offering its students the opportunity to receive an education in
a well-established campus.
Graduates receive the title of Doctor of Dental Surgeon. They are able to work in Oral Health
Care Hospitals, Oral Health Care Centres and Private Clinics. The demand for Dental Surgeons
are growing. Oral Health has become one of the main health problems of the 21st Century
especially when taking into account societies in developing countries which suffer the most.
Both the Pre-Clinical Laboratories and other labs accommodate up 150 students.
There are 50 desktop computers and 5 laser scanners that are connected to the Faculty network
as well as the internet. All Windows supported computers are equipped with the following
programs for the usage of students: Word, Excell, Power Point, Access, Matlab, Visual Basic,
Delphi, Visual C++, NET. Furthermore, there are 5 laser scanners.
The University of Kyrenia Grand Library contains over 2367 units of Medical resources in
addition to the resources available Online, i.e. Science Direct, Ebscoand ISI Web of Science.
Students admitted to the University of Kyrenia have access to many facilities on campus; such as
a variety of canteens, cafeterias and food halls, a fitness centre, an Olympic swimming pool,
open-air football field, basketball grounds and tennis courts.
