Molecular Biology and Genetics, which is an ever-developing, interdisciplinary branch of science, explores the basic properties, structure and functions of molecules that make up life, their interactions with each other and the cellular responses resulting from these interactions. Molecular Biology and Genetics Department is a department with an innovative and qualified program that provides entrepreneurs, researchers, international graduates, ethical values, graduates who understand the functioning of living creatures at the molecular level, apply their knowledge to the benefit of society and develop solutions.
The department, which started education in 2000-2001 academic year within the framework of HaliƧ University Science and Literature Faculty, gave its first graduates in 2004. It continues its education with its expert academic staff. In addition to his undergraduate education, he started to give education in the field of master's degree in 2004-2005 academic year. The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics of HaliƧ University offers education opportunities to students with its quality education program, well-equipped laboratory infrastructure and its expert and experienced academic staff.
In the first two years of the undergraduate program, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology courses, which are mainly basic science courses, are taught to provide students with a scientific background. In the last two years, compulsory theoretical and laboratory courses such as molecular biology, molecular genetics, molecular biology techniques and molecular biology applications, and cell molecular biology are given. In addition to these, students must choose fields in special fields and outside the field elective courses in addition to the compulsory courses related to cancer biology and genetics, genetic engineering, stem cell biology, RNA world, bioinformatics, molecular microbiology and microbial technology courses, so that students can explore different aspects of their departments. At the end of 4 years, students complete the program as graduates who are wanted and preferred in the field.
Graduates can be preferred in R&D centers, genetic laboratories of hospitals, special genetic diagnosis laboratories, in vitro fertilization centers, Forensic Medicine Institution, agriculture, animal husbandry and pharmaceutical sector or continue their careers as academicians.
The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics also offers the opportunity of double major and minor programs with departments such as Mathematics, Engineering departments, Midwifery, Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition, students are given the opportunity to study abroad as part of the Erasmus Exchange Program.
