The Department of New Media and Communication aims to teach students to comprehend new media technologies as mass communication tools, and the cultural and social changes brought about by these technologies. It offers an integrated approach, where theory and practice meet. With this approach, students will develop a transdisciplinary and critical perspective on social changes in the context of social sciences. They will gain communicative qualifications with advanced visual design perception and skills, digital literacy, critical thinking, and ability to produce and manage content with the tools of new technology.
Mission is to prepare students to become competent and responsible media professionals on both local and global platforms. Students will have the opportunity to conduct collaborative work with academic staff and become creative thinkers through hands-on projects. They will also get the chance to broaden their personal interests and pursue their professional goals through internship. Upon completion of their degrees, graduates will be qualified to practice in a variety of fields, including social media expertise, journalism, advertising, digital media production and creative arts.

This course examines representations of race, class, gender, and sexual identity in the media. In the course, the students will be considering issues of authorship, spectatorship, audience and the ways in which various media content (film, television, print journalism, advertising) enables, facilitates, and challenges these social constructions in society. Moreover, the students will examine how gender and race affects the production of media and discuss the impact of new media and digital media and how it has transformed access and participation, moving contemporary media users from a traditional position of readers to writers and/or commentators. Students will analyze gendered language and embodiment as it is produced online in blogs and vlogs, avatars, and in the construction of cyberidentities.
