In the pharmacy program, education and research are carried out on subjects such as obtaining synthetic, semi-synthetic or biological origin drug raw materials, examining and evaluating their physical, chemical and biological properties, producing quality drugs and storing and using drugs.
Major Courses Taught in the Pharmacy program, mainly Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology courses are given. Undergraduate courses on the production techniques and uses of pharmaceutical raw materials and forms were generally collected in the last two years. Courses in Pharmacy Faculties are carried out theoretically and practically. Students continue their practice courses in faculty laboratories and do internships in pharmacy, hospital and industry, spread over different years throughout the education period.
Titles Earned by Graduates and Their Jobs
Those who complete the pharmacy program are given the title of "Pharmacist". A pharmacist is a professional from the healthcare group, but also a businessman. Buying and selling medicines as a community pharmacist is a business. However, pharmacy is a health profession because it provides information and advice to the public and health officials about the quality and characteristics of drugs. Pharmacists sell ready-made drugs requested by doctors in prescriptions, prepare the necessary drugs to be prepared, and warn customers about over-the-counter drugs. Pharmacists carry out their work in closed places, such as laboratories and pharmacies, where drug odors are common. For this reason, it would be beneficial for a person who wants to be a pharmacist to consider this working environment. A pharmacist's interest in economics and trading, fields of work the majority of pharmacists work in their own or other pharmacies, some of them work as responsible pharmacists in pharmacies of hospitals, some of them work as researchers or drug promoters in laboratories and the pharmaceutical industry, and a small number of them are engaged in education. The opportunity for graduates of the Faculty of Pharmacy to find employment in public institutions seems to have decreased in recent years. The region or city where they will open a pharmacy is also important for those who want to become a community pharmacist. Big cities have more pharmacies than they need.
Position of the Occupation in the Next 10 Years: Job opportunities are expected to be even more limited in the future.
Features Required by the Profession:
- Not allergic to drugs and chemicals
- Being interested in science and especially chemistry and being successful in this field
- Willing to work in a laboratory environment
- Have a high sense of responsibility
- Be careful, organized and organized
- Have good communication skills.
