About the Department
The Department of Translation Studies is a multidisciplinary academic unit designed according to the contemporary principles and programs of the field. Modern dialectic theory and descriptive theories, research, and analytical methods lead to significant innovations in this field. Our curriculum is prepared considering this fact, following comparative and critical intensive research of programs in our country and developed in universities abroad. It has been ensured that the program conforms to contemporary academic processes, taking into account the modern application and development of translation theory, text type and functionality, action theory, relativity theory, explanatory communication theory, Skopos theory, and functional theories. Furthermore, the opportunities that computer technologies provide the field with new software are also amongst the advantages of the program.
Education Opportunities
Since the department is largely based on foreign language education, language teaching/learning, and translation techniques, the existence of the School of Foreign Languages and the Department of English Language Teaching in the Faculty of Education provides important educational possibilities. It is highly likely that students from abroad will be interested in the department due to our university's liaison with foreign countries in recent years and in parallel with universal tendencies and preferences. The mission of the department, in addition to the basic education required by the Translation Studies program, is to integrate technologies such as "terminology management databases", "translation memories", and "localization tools" into verbal and written translation applications. In addition to the language and computer laboratories of our institution, specialists in the field can be trained at the advanced level with professional systems and equipment in Simultaneous Translation Laboratories. In this unit, which also includes simultaneous translation systems, there are headphones, microphones, and simultaneous translation devices.
